Jews for Judaism / Be-True Photo Contest

THEME: The Joy of Judaism

We are looking for an original new photo taken by the contestant expressing the Joys of Judaism.

This contest is sponsored by Jews for Judaism, Be-True, and David and Gittel Rubin

Photo Contest Guidelines


ELIGIBILITY:

The contest is open to all Jewish Students ages 10 – 22.

All entries by individuals under the age of 13 must include a consent form signed by parent or a legal guardian. Click Here to download the consent form.

TO ENTER:

Submit your original, unpublished photograph. This photo must have been taken by the contestant, and it must not have been selected as a winning photo in a previous photo contest.

All entries must be submitted via www.be-true.org. (JPG or GIF files only and resolution must be minimum of 300 dpi)

Slides will not be accepted.

Photos cannot be taken from any online photo albums (such as: Flickr, Facebook, Snapfish or any other similar sites).

  • No borders or frames may be added to images.
  • No watermarks, signatures, or copyright notices may be added to the images.
  • Images may be cropped and rotated as necessary as long as the rectangular format is maintained and the file size is within the specifications above.
  • Any individuals who appear in your photo in focus must give written permission for the use of their image if their face is shown.
  • All entries must include a title for the photo, a description of the relevance of the photo to the above theme, where and when the photo was taken, and the identity of each person who is depicted in the photo. The description will be limited to 200 words.
  • Each entrant must supply his or her full name, e-mail address, area code and phone number, and complete mailing address.
  • Limit one entry per person.
  • Photos should not be taken on Shabbat or on a Yom Tov.
  • The winning 20 photos will also be posted on Jews for Judaism and Be-True Websites.
  • All submissions must be received by March 15, 2010 at  12p.m., Pacific Standard time.
  • Entries will become the property of Jews for Judaism / Be-True and will not be returned
  • Jews for Judaism / Be-True is not responsible for lost, late, illegible, damaged, misdirected or incomplete entries.
  • Entrants agree to be bound by these official rules. Applicants MUST be able to deliver a high resolution (300 dpi) version or negative of photo if selected as a winner or finalist.

  • Prizes may not be extended, transferred, or substituted, except that Jews for Judaism / Be-True reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute the listed prizes with similar items of equal or greater value. All taxes are the responsibility of the winners.

PUBLICITY RELEASE:

By submitting a photo, each entrant grants Jews for Judaism / Be-True the right to use his or her name, voice, photograph, likeness, and information provided on entry form, without compensation, including in all publicity and marketing materials (including Jews for Judaism / Be-True web sites) relating to the photo or the photo contest, except where prohibited by law.

LICENSE:

By entering the photo contest, each entrant grants Jews for Judaism / Be-True a non-exclusive limited license to copy, distribute, display, adapt, publish, and make derivative works from the photo or portions of the photo in Jews for Judaism/Be-True marketing materials in any media now known or hereafter created, including publication and distribution of the photo or portions of the photo on Jews for Judaism / Be-True web sites, or any publication without further compensation. Jews for Judaism / Be-True will endeavor to include the entrant’s name each time his or her photo or a portion of his or her photo is used in this manner.

WARRANTY BY ENTRANT:

By submitting a photo, each entrant warrants that the photo is original, was taken by the entrant, does not violate any copyright laws, and does not plagiarize, libel, defame, disparage, slander, or otherwise infringe on or violate the rights of any third parties. Each entrant further certifies that it has obtained all necessary and appropriate approvals or consents from all persons and entities participating in or otherwise involved with the creation and production of the photo. Each entrant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Jews for Judaism / Be-True, its officers, directors, employees and affiliated organizations, and their respective officers, directors and employees, from and against any and all claims, demands, damages, costs, liabilities, and causes of action of whatsoever nature that are based upon or arise out of any breach by the entrant of these contest rules or the warranties and representations made in this paragraph.

JUDGING:

The top ten photos will be selected based on votes and popularity. Finalist judging will be conducted by a panel of Jewish community lay leaders and Jews for Judaism / Be-True staff. All finalist and winners photos will be displayed at Be-True.org and JewsforJudaism.org. The three (3) top photos will receive the prizes described above.

WINNER NOTIFICATION:

Winners will be notified via e-mail or postal mail by March 31, 2010 or within a reasonable time thereafter. If a winner is disqualified or ineligible for any reason, Jews for Judaism / Be-True will select the next highest scoring entry as the alternate winner. Alternate winners are subject to all eligibility requirements in these rules.

MISCELLANEOUS:

Jews for Judaism / Be-True reserves the right to disqualify any entry for inappropriate content and/or failure to follow contest rules, including entries that Jews for Judaism / Be-True reasonably believes are not the original work of an entrant. Any photo for which more than one entrant claims ownership will be disqualified from entry. Void where prohibited or restricted by law. Jews for Judaism / Be-True reserves the right to interpret these rules as needed and its decisions are final. Jews for Judaism / Be-True reserves the right to correct typographical, clerical, or printing errors in any contest materials and to cancel all or any portion of this contest if, for reasons beyond Jews for Judaism / Be-True control, the contest is not capable of being run fairly or securely.
